What is MAS?

The Muslim Aerican Society (MAS) is a charitable, religious, social cultural, and educational, not-profit organization. It is a poineering Islam organization, an Islamic revival, and reform movement that uplifts the individual, family, and society.

TARBIYA - An Arabic word that linguistically meansincrease, growth, and refinement. Conventionally, Tarbiya means the development and the training of people in various aspects. The wordis commonly used to describe the upbringing of children as the parents provide them with physical, educational, oral and spiritual needs to help them grow and become useful members of society.

INVEST with ALLAH

When and Where it all started?

.in community development

This is an opportunity to be a part of a major, ongoing effort in building a model Muslim community; one that is vibrant and possesses the required talent, facilities, and services needed by every member of the family. It is an unfailing invitation to invest with Allah in community development.

Allah (swt) says; "verily never will Allah change the conditions of a people until they change what is in themselves" [13:11]

And we as the Muslim American Society are determine to do what it takes to change our condition in order to mold a better future for ourselves and our children.

This is an integrated program based on a comprehensive vision of empowerment. InshaAllah, with your help, these programs can be consolidated and expanded. Our prime objective is to touch and make a difference in as many lives as possible.

We believe that a model community can accomplish much in projecting the true image of Islam, and, as a result, work for the good and welfare of all. And in order to accomplish this goal, our community should NEITHER be isolated nor assimilated, but successfully integrated within society while retaining its pride and confidence. And together we can help our community, and especially the youth, not just make a living but also make a difference.

The Muslim American Society (MAS) traces its historical roots back to the call of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him). Its more recent roots, however, can be traced to the Islamic revival movement which evolved at the turn of the twentieth century. This movement brought the call of Islam to Muslims throughout the globe to reestablish Islam as a total way of life. The call and the spirit of the movement reached the shores of North America with arrival of Muslim students and immigrants in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

These early pioneers and Islamic movement followers established in 1963 the Muslim Student Association (MSA) of the U.S and Canada as a rallying point in their endeavor to serve Islam and Muslims in North America. Other services and outreach organizations soon followed, such as the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), the Islamic Medical Association (IMA), the Muslim Arab Youth Association (MAYA) and the Muslim Youth of North America (MYNA), to name a few. Twenty years later, Islamic movement followers and sympathizers in North America launched the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA).

Mindful of the dynamic changes that are taking place within the Muslim community and its surroundings, and keeping an eye on the future, a number of Islamic workers and Islamic movement followers decided in 1992, after a painstaking measured and tedious process of soul-searching and consultation, to launch the Muslim American Society (MAS) in order to complement the work accomplished over the last three decades, and to lay the ground for the Islamic effort needed to face the next century's challenges. And now, our Muslim youth, in five high schools around the Milwaukee area have formed Muslim clubs called 'Friends of Islam.' Some have even organized their own Friday Prayer. Insha'Allah, with the community's support groups like these will expand nationwide.
